Week 12 Review:
Disclaimer: I am a New York Jets fan, which while currently living in Chicago, I equate to being the drunken obnoxious twin of the lovable loser Cubs fans prior to their winning the World Series title. I sat at my dive bar watching the Jets-Patriots game fairly confident the Jets would not ruin my “under” pick with a back-door touchdown that also would have killed people who took the Patriots giving whatever range of points one could get during the week. And that confidence was rewarded when that 4th down pass fell incomplete just after the two-minute warning.
Once again, I tried to be too cute by a half and threaded a needle that was not there in the Chargers-Cardinals game after taking the Chargers and the points and the over in the first half because I keep believing the Cardinals are going to somehow morph into a competent team with Josh Rosen. The only other incorrect pick that raised my hackles was Pittsburgh turning in a clunker for a second consecutive week after thinking it had purged itself of such performances in the win over Jacksonville.
Note: Monday’s picks will move late morning/early afternoon Monday after the “Bank the Bet” podcast in which Scott Steehn and I break down the NFC East blood feud between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins. In a shameless boast of my prowess that will undoubtedly lead to some comeuppance, I am 11-1 with my MNF picks the last two weeks after sweeping a six-pack of picks in the Titans-Texans game. This contest, however, is more challenging to call.
